What’s the best morning routine for your skin?

Posted by Peter Matthews on

When you’re looking for the best way to start your day, there’s so much advice. Exfoliate, don’t use product, wash your face, don’t wash your face, freeze it, steam it, moisturise, wipe. What if you do the wrong thing? Firstly, saving yourself the drama and tragedy of bad advice only takes a minute. If you’re worried about whether something on the Internet is true, you can find out with a quick search. Generally, there will be someone on the first page of results warning you about a bad technique or product. This is a feel-good exercise at SkinB5, where products like our Moisturiser or Five-Minute Skin Purifying Mask get great reviews. To wash or not to wash If you have dry, sensitive skin, be gentle when you wash your face - it’s important to do it twice a day. Try splashing on some cold water. This is a great way to prevent shaving rash if you’ve just razored your growth - and is much better than aftershave, which can dry you out. No matter how much water you can handle on the outside, a litre on the inside always helps. Drinking a couple glasses of water in the morning will keep you hydrated, decrease acne and aid circulation until you glow.

Products

Creams, moisturisers, potions. Everyone’s doing it. There’s nothing sexier than a guy with the confidence to put something healthy on his skin. Of course, you may be allergic to certain cosmetics. This will usually show in a rash. If that happens, see your doctor, figure out what your allergy is and switch to another brand. Congratulations, you’ve learned something about yourself. If you’re getting cosily into your 20s or older, it’s a good idea to think about anti-ageing cream. Our Moisturiser contains antioxidants, which will keep you looking young.

So, what should I do?

It’s good to experiment with different methods and see which one gives you the skin you want. You may need smooth or callused hands, a glow or a tan. Here are a few ways to perfect your skin before the day has started:

For softer skin

  • Let the shower open your pores.
  • Be gentle when you cleanse the skin.
  • Wash your face with cold water
  • Apply a hydrating product like SkinB5 Moisturiser
  • Drink water
  • Try to get in some walking for extra circulation

For clearer skin

  • Drink some water, take an Acne Control Extra Strength Tablets
  • Shower and wash your face
  • Dry your face gently
  • Have a nutritious breakfast - fruit and vegetables are best
  • Drink more water

For glowing skin

  • Take an Acne Control Caplet
  • Rub your face with bran oil or SkinB5 Acne Control Cleansing Mousse
  • Now, with a razor, carefully scrape the oil away
  • Wash off the oil with a shower
  • Blast the cold water for 10-30 seconds, or wash your face with cold water
  • Apply Moisturiser or anti-ageing cream
  • Have fruit and vegetables with your breakfast
If you don’t shower in the morning yet, try! It’s great for confidence. Many people will tell you that exercise helps with all these. I’m a believer in eating before heavy exercise so that your body doesn’t burn muscle, but we could argue about that forever. What matters is that you’re improving yourself. Now enjoy your day. Peter is a writer and acne survivor living in Melbourne. He usually scrapes and washes his face, then has his shower cold because nothing can put out a man this lit. In the early morning, he also likes to learn languages.
