4 common beauty mistakes that are making your skin worse!

Posted by on

Do you regularly cleanse, hydrate and treat your skin but somehow you still manage to experience skin issues like acne? Or find that your skin isn’t as radiant as you want it to be? Well, you may not realise it but you may have some seemingly harmless habits that could be wrecking your skin and doing more harm than good. But not to worry, here are the most common beauty mistakes that you can avoid and here’s what to do instead.

Mistake 1. Over cleansing and exfoliating the skin

I know it can be tempting to overly cleanse or scrub your skin more than two to three times a day but by doing this, you’re actually destroying your skins natural protective barrier and can cause your skin to be irritated instead. And if you have acne it can take longer than normal to heal, so ditch anything abrasive and try an exfoliator that does the trick with aloe Vera and salicylic acid, like SkinB5’s Cleansing Mousse foam wash, the cleanser helps refine skin texture and helps heal the skin, while gently removing dead skin cells without any irritation.

Mistake 2. Popping pimples … Don’t do it!!

Popping or picking pimples adds more bacteria to your skin by constantly touching it with your fingers which can cause an infection and can be pushed further into the skin, which in turn prolongs the healing time and can cause the injured area permanent damage like scarring or dark hyperpigmentation to the skin. So, it’s a generally a good rule of thumb to keep your hands to yourself. Instead, treat it with a 5-minute clay mask like SkinB5’s Purifying Mask, it contains French green clay and sea minerals which are naturally antibacterial and it gently unclogs your pores which help deeply nourishes your skin. So remember don’t touch!

Mistake 3. Skipping the sunscreen

Skipping sunscreen can result in changes in skin colour, wrinkles and fine lines appearing earlier than normal and not to mention the increased possibility of developing skin cancer. Besides causing photo aging of the skin, getting sunburnt naturally spurs the skin to over produce oil, which means it can lead to more breakouts. So please protect your skin by wearing a high-quality sunscreen with a high sun protection factor (SPF) and look for one that says non-comedogenic on the bottle to ensure it doesn’t clog up your pores. Read more tips about which sunscreen to choose.

Mistake 4. Only treating your skin from the outside

Your skin is a reflection of what’s going on inside your body. So your skin problems could be from any combination of hormone imbalance, excess sebum production, food allergies and stress. So it is important to find that inner balance of the body by incorporating more fresh, organic fruits and vegetables, raw nuts and seeds into your diet. Avoid processed foods and non-organic dairy which may contain antibiotics and growth hormones that may alter hormone balance. And start taking a good quality vitamin and mineral supplement that will help balance out your hormones naturally and improve your overall skin health. I personally recommend taking SkinB5’s Acne Control Caplets because it’s just the best vitamin and mineral available that is natural and contains no harmful chemicals. So the next time you go to pop a pimple or overly cleanse your face, remember that your skin health is important and if you want that beautiful, radiant looking skin, you’ve got to kick those habits for good. 2015-08-02-12-37-39_deco_Farah My name is Farah and I am an advocate for natural and organic beauty products, healthy living and a self-proclaimed whole foods enthusiast.
