Lets face it, none of us like having pimples, spots or acne. Acne can lower our self-esteem, erase our confidence and slowly but surely start to change us into someone... that really we’re not!
But how many of us (and yes I used to be guilty of this) although we know what we should, or should not be doing to help our skin, continue to do too many of the should not’s?
So a big one for me was continuing to eat the things that aggravated my skin and time after time caused me to have breakouts. Sugar & dairy for me were a sure fire way to ensure a dip in my confidence, as they caused inflammation and with that acne. But what was it that caused me to go back again and again to those sugary ‘treats’ only to feel ‘treated’ to being frustrated and angry that I’d had no self-control and ‘treated’ to a few more spots!
For me it was all about becoming more aware and mindful of how my actions affected my skin and feelings.
After all someone who has a peanut allergy may love peanuts but they wont eat any because of the possibility of suffering a major allergic reaction and loosing their life. This is an extreme example but it comes down to what you want most…to enjoy peanuts or to live an amazing life? For me: to enjoy chocolate and cake or to have amazing self-esteem and confidence due to my clear skin.
When I thought of it like that it was simple… sugar and chocolate was not so tempting. If it would kill me I wouldn’t eat it, so I wouldn’t eat it because it was killing my confidence!
So if you are constantly doing the no no’s for your skin and suffering for it, have a think outside the box like I did. Some tough love never hurt anyone J
